EDGEWARE ROAD SEALING
Residents Petition Council
Thirty-one residents of Edgeware road, between Colombo street and Springfield road, complained to the City Council last evening about the state of the roadway outside their properties.
In a petition presented by Cr. W. J. Cowles, they complained of dangers to traffic and of dust and sand damaging their properties. “These people have very just cause for complaint,” said Cr. Cowles. “I have seen some of the damage in homes caused by dust. Side channels get filled with sand, properties are flooded, and there have been disagreeable odours from stagnant waters.” He said the residents had tried to get some action to have the street sealed after the sewer works, “but no one seems to take the responsibility.”
Cr. Cowles said that further east of Edgeware road the roadway had been sealed and then the Gas Company had made holes. There was no reason why the company should not have done its work months ago. The petition was referred tofrthe works committee.
