trotting Maharaja And Fox Able For Washdyke Double

Maharaja, a failure at Addington last month is picked to win the £lOOO Timaru Handicap, the Lain race and first leg of the double at the Timaru Trotting Club s autumn meeting at Washdvke tomorrow. Maharaja s failure at Addington can be overlooked as he was forced wide during his race ami he covered a tremendous amount of extra ground.

Maharaja has shown considerable promise in his racing to date and he should eventually be a big winner for M. C. McTigue, who trains him at Methven for Mrs McTigue. Cassado, a sound staying mare by Casanova, won the race in which Maharaja failed at Addington at her last start. Now that she has struck form, she should carry on and from 24 yards her prospects cannot be overlooked. Macklin has failed at his last two starts, both on easy tracks. Before that he had won at his only two starts for the season, and both wins were full of merit. Macklin is a stout stayer and one of his best efforts would result in him taking a prominent part in the finish. Mountain Brigade should do best of the four horses on the front. He has been placed in his last three starts, being narrowly beaten by McGimpy at New Brighton at his most recent appearance. He looks better placed on the front in this event and a bold showing is expected from him. Placed at Wellington

Fourth Edition will be in demand after his sound second over two miles to Guard’s Brigade at the Wellington meeting last Saturday. His failure in the sprint later in the day can be overlooked as he is better than that effort suggested. Fourth Edition has finished second in three of his last five starts and he is due for a winning run. Given a favourable trail to the final furlong, he should outstprint most of his rivals. McGimpy has struck a solid patch of form in recent months, but unless there is an easing in the track conditions his chances may not be so good. Responsive, Dinnie Daley and Single Derby are others capable of a bold showing. Fox Able is expected to be a firm favourite for the Washdyke Handicap, the second leg of the double. He won very easily in fast time at Hutt Park last Saturday, but failed at a second appearance. He has drawn the outside of the horses on the front and this should assist him to begin more smoothly than when standing among other horses. Fox Able has tremendous speed and if he works clear early, the others will be struggling to close on him. Toronto Boy has raced consistently in his few starts this season and another win could come his way tomorrow. He was runnerup to Stellar in a.sprint race at Orari last month and if he races as well again, he should be the hardest for Fox Able to beat. Whippy Dillon is another sound prospect. He paced a sound race for second to Gay Wanderer at Hutt Park last week and once more he should be hard to beat. Canteen, Radar and Toka Boy are others expected to race well. Due for Win Dalmatian should gain an overdue win in the Temuka Handicap. She was a good second to Larnie Scott at New Brighton last month and a week later she beat all but Procrastinator at Orari. Dalmatian is racing more generously than in the past and she may gain a welldeserved win. With You trotted a useful race for fourth at New Brighton at his last start and even though he will give away starts of up to 48 yards, he

should go close to reaching a place once more. u +x , Mig ’? ty xx Brigade « a candidate for the Trotting Stakes at Addington, looks favourably placed on the front and he should add interest to the nnish.

Another three-year-old in Super Cloud is a fine type of trotter and he. too, could be placed. Captain Spider. Wraith, Judear and Procrastinator are others expected to show up. Rockn Roll should avenge he'defeat at Orari in the Claremont Handicap. That was her first start tor the season and she should have derived benefit from it. She is most solid and this should stand to her. Lucie Manette won stylishly at Orari and she should again be hard 10 u® at - She meets Rockn Roll on 36 yards worse terms and this ma y be against her. However, it vnll be surprising if she finishes out of a place. Thumberlina usually trots solidly and she is not often out of the money. She tried on the easy track at . ?L ai ?’ but the firme r going at Washdyke should suit her better. Kauranui, a member of D J Townley’s team, is a likely ‘improver. He was fourth at Orari and may do better tomorrow. Super Craft, Tribune and Beau Clair are others expected to do best of the remainder.
