Plans For Dual Acceptors
"The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, March 5. According to their trainers it has not been decided in which races Pinnace and Regal Dignitary will start on the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club’s autumn meeting. Pinnace is an acceptor in both the North Island Challenge Stakes and the Plunket Nursery Handicap. If he starts in the former he will be ridden by W. T. Day, and will be bracketed with Blonde Sprite. Regal Dignitary has engagements in the North Island Challenge Stakes and the Railway Handicap. W. L. Aitken has been engaged to ride him.
Two newcomers at Trentham this morning which impressed by their condition were Teaka and Melanion. Teaka will be one of the favourites for the Autumn Handicap. He has done well at Trentham recently, having flushed second to Liban in the Racing Club Handicap on the second day of the summer meeting, and second to Bali Ha’i in the St. James’s Cup at the Royal Welcome meeting. In between those appearances he won the Midsummer Handicap at Riccarton. He looks better than he did on his last visit to Trentham.
Melanion is a top-flight sprinter and has raced consistently at Trentham. He should make a bold showing in the North Island Challenge Stakes. A. C. Messervy has been engaged for Bugle Boy in the Thompson Handicap. Messervy has been successful on the horse previously.
