Roadblocks Bar Transport
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyrigtit) LONDON, March 5. Serious interruptions occurred at the Syria-Jordan border last night of international transport travelling on the 200-mile arterial link joining Beirut, Damascus and Amman, reported the “Daily Telegraph.” The newspapers said this development was the latest phase of the cold war between Colonel Nasser’s Arab Republic of Egypt and Syria and the Arab Federation of Jordan and Iraq.
Damascus merchants were reported to have said that 400 lorries laden with food and other goods for Kuwait and Iraq had been turned back.at the Jordan post of Ramtha in 24 hours. Some lorries and goods were said to have been damaged and Syrian drivers roughly handled.
Jordanian authorities had reported that lorries carrying phosphates for export were turnedback from Deraa.
