MINOR FIRES
Six fires, three of which were grass fires, were attended by units from the central and suburban fire stations yesterday. A small detached shed and IS feet of paling fence were destroyed in a fire on the property of Mr J. W. Haley at 129 Opawa road just after midday. One unit, from Wqolston and one from the Central station attended. At 1.53 p.m. a grass fire on property owned by the Christchurch City Council at Kerrs Reach was attended by a unit from Woolston and the central station. There was no-damage. One unit from Sockburn and the Paparua tender answered a call to a grass fire on the property of C. W. F. Hamilton Ltd.. Lunns road at 3.23 p.m. The same units attended another grass fire on New Zealand Railways property in Curletts road at 4.37 p.m. Neither fire caused damage. Slight damage to the roof of the cooperage department at the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company’s freezing works at Belfast resulted from a fire in the building at 5.44 p.m. The fire was caused by a spark from an Incinerator. One unit from St Albans and one from the central station attended.
