Grenades Thrown Outside Cinema
Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11.10 p.m.) JAKARTA, January 8. Scores of armed troops cordoned off a suburban cinema last night after exploding hand grenades injured 13 persons.
The news agency P.LA. reported that at least Six persons were taken to hospital following the 2,. explosions which took place outside the Rivoli Cinema.
_ Theexjdosion occurred near tram tracks outside the Rivoli Cinema, which is in the Pasar Senin suburb, near the heart of the city.
The owners of Dutch enterprises which have not yet been taken over by the Indonesian Government have been ordered to report to the Jakarta Military Command within 10 days, according to Netherland News Agency reports from Jakarta today.
Forty-nine Dutch enterprises had so far been taken over since December in the Jakarta area. Indonesian soldiers not on duty were ordered today to stay in their barracks during military exercises planned for Thursday, the American Associated Press reported from Jakarta., The exercises were ordered to prepare the troops for “any eventuality.”
Lieutenant - Colonel Endange Dachjar, military commander of the Jakarta area, also advised civilians to remain calm during the exercises.
There had been reports that Communists would try to use President Soekarno’s absence as a time to seize control, the agency said.
Mr H. D. Manoppo, the selfstyled Governor of the North Celebes, yesterday formally proclaimed the region’s administrative services on a provincial level, according to Radio Menado, monitored in Jakarta. He also “installed” heads of various agencies. The broadcast quoted Mr Manoppo as saying in a speech: “A province without its own services merely constitutes an empty province.”
He said proclamation of a separate North Celebes province “is a reality for which there is no bargaining.” He claimed that the existence of a North Celebes Province had already been recognised by Jakarta. From January 1 all finance matters had been separated from the Celebes Province Administration at Macassar, he said.
