SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL
83rd Birthday Tomorrow
Tomorrow Sir Winston Churchill will be 83. During his 83 years he has been war correspondent, political writer, historian, artist and bricklayer, as well as being twice Prime Minister of Britain and holding many Cabinet posts. He has represented both the Conservative and Liberal Parties in the House of Commons. He has been made an honorary citizen of cities in France, Cuba, Greece, the United States, as well as being given the freedom of Luxembourg and 41 cities in Britain, France and Belgium. In 1952 he was made honorary Mayor of Cap d’Ail, France. His decorations, both civil and military, have been awarded by 10 countries. He has been awarded among many other prizes, the Nobel Prize for Literature. Universities in Britain, Canada, the United States, Belgium, Holland, Norway, and Denmark have awarded him honorary degrees. The degree of doctor of laws has been bestowed on Sir Winston Churchill 14 times. As one of the best-known amateur painters in the world he has been made an Honorary Academician Extraordinary by the Royal Academy and written a book, “Painting as a Pastime.”
