SOUTH ISLAND PUBLICITY

Re-election Of S President /x Mr L. Christie was unanimously re-elected as president of the South Island Publicity Association at the annual meeting yesterday. Although for several years two vice-presidents have been elected, the association’s constitution provided for only one officer. The meeting decided to adhere by the constitution. Mr H. R. Wigley was elected, the other nomination being Mr W. S. Crotty. Members of the executive council elected were:—Sir Ernest Andrews, Messrs K. W. Laugesen, W. S. Mac Gibbon, M. Connelly, H. S. Feast, A. C. Brassington, R. E. White, A. W. Wright, F. W. Freeman, J. A. Harley, D. H. Cockburn, and W. P. Glue, the Mayors of Christchurch and Dunedin being members ex officio. The standing committee comprises the Christchurch members of the executive

“This has happened far too long and it is being said too often,” said the president when the reported remarks in Christchurch of a visitor to Australia that from information given there by New Zealand Tourist Bureaux, there was only one place in the Dominion—the North Island. On the motion of Mr Feast, the secretary (Mr T. D. Flint) was instructed to interview the traveller. The president said the question would be raised at next week’s meeting of the executive of the Travel and Holiday Association with the Tourist and Publicity Department. If satisfaction was not obtained, the matter would be taken up with the Minister. The need for increased membership and revenue was emphasised by Mr Feast. The association’s contribution to the Travel and Holiday Association was small and it was a question of how long the latter body would continue to give the North and South Islands equal publicity.
