Police Promotions Cause Dissatisfaction In Force

WELLINGTON, November 28. Considerable surprise was exetesSed by members of the Police force when recommendations for promotion from senior sergeant to inspector were announced in the police Gazette this morning. It its believed that 22 senior Serjeants in direct line for promotion have been passed over in preference to some officers whose appointment to senior sergeant ocrarred more recently. Eight of the senior sergeants pdt promoted have held that position since 1950 while most of those recommended have only held their present rank from 1952 onwards. is further understood that rcany of those passed over, have been in the force for more than 30 years. Their first news that they had not been recommended was when they read the gazette this morning. Several senior officers expressed disapproval at the system. It is anticipated that there will be a
