THE KU TRUTH An "open letter" to the electors. TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS; * ••NATPAR” November, 1957 Dear Elector, Many wage-earners will have noted that Labour’s £lOO rebate scheme offers precious little for them . . . except the certainty of higher taxes later on to pay for it. Thousands of married men with children will get nothing out of it at all; others will receive purely nominal benefits. But single men, and those in the higher tax brackets, will receive substantial concessions. Labour now offers most to those who need it least. But what of the long-term effects? Those who are let off their income tax now should consider these. First, they will have to pay in the form of increased taxes in future. Labour has given no undertaking not to increase income tax. The offer of a rebate up to £lOO is for one year only. It is a ‘‘oncer’’. Mr. Nash says: ‘‘This is the time to do it.’’ Of course it is! This is election year! The National Government in its last Budget announced a 25 per cent, tax rebate which still stands. This will be maintained for the next three years, and will give a continuing behefit without damaging the country ’s economy—without recourse to funny money, without inflation, higher prices, without further income tax increases. |- Labour has dangled the election bait unashamedly before you. The cost of it would be £l9 millions of your money. We believe responsible citizens will reject this »l; reckless bid for-power. The N.Z. National Party 1 NATIONAL for Good Government ;
