NEW OPPORTUNITIES IN AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE FOR HOLDERS OF UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE. Boys interested in a rewarding career in agricultural science are invited to inquire before March 1, 1958, for details of the new Rural Field Cadet awards which enable study at either Massey College or Lincoln College for the degrees of Bachelor of Agriculture or Bachelor of Agricultural Science. Selections for the 1959 University year will be made in July, 1958. Those intending to apply must be prepared to spend a second year in the sixth Form next year. Qualifications desired are a good scholastic record • —preferably in chemistry, physics, biology and/or mathematics —and some farming experience. A good standard of physique, appearance and personality is sought, and notice will be taken of any success achieved in school and outside activities. The new study award scheme is designed to combine academic study at Agricultural Colleges with practical training on selected farms. All costs will be met, including University fees, board, lodging and out-of-pocket expenses. During the working period, award wages will be paid by farmer employers. This entirely new scheme aims at producing more agricultural scientists, research workers and extension officers, and will be of the utmost importance to the future of New Zealand's farming industry. If you are likely to be interested, write to The Supervisor, Rural Field Cadet Scheme, State Advances Corporation, Wellington; or, The Secretary, Public Service Commission, Bowen Street, Wellington.
