Whilebailing

Sir, —Now that the whitebait season is ended I hope that next season will be supervised .on a fairer basis. At the Ashley several parties have been disappointed to find, on arrival several hours before the tide rises, all the likely places taken up with set nets (they must have been there all night) and perhaps one man (with a truck) or old woman in charge or no-one. I spoke to them about the many nets (13 we counted) but she said they were for friends (invisible). Is this sort of monopoly to go on or is it one man one net? If the approach to the Ashley had the 18 inch bump in the middle of the road levelled off low-set cars could negotiate the grade.—Yours, etc., FAIR FISHING. November 28, 1957.
