RICCARTON BUSH DRYNESS

Proposals For Irrigation The dry conditions at Riccarton Bush in the summer had caused concern, according to the annua! report of the Canterbury branch of the Royal Society of New Zealand. The council has set up a subcommittee comprising Mr A J. Healy, Professor W. R. Philipson and Dr. E. J. Godley, to report every 10 years on the state of the flora at Riccarton Bush. A fund has been established to assist in this work. Proposals under consideration to irrigate the bush by three alternative methods are: artesian wells; pumping from the river; and use of the local high pressure water supply.
