Cricket FIRST TEST TODAY

England And N.Z. Women’s Teams In bitterly cold conditions the English and New Zealand women’s cricket teams which will meet in the first test match which begins at Lancaster Park * today, practised for four hours at the park yesterday afternoon. The practise was an extremely strenuous one for both teams and the serious view taken of today’s match was reflected in the manner in which the players set out to train. The heavy rainfall in Christchurch in the last two days has softened the pitch considerably, and the outfield also may be a little slow today. The weather forecast is favourable, however, and the winds, which persisted after the rain stopped, should dry the pitch considerably. No alterations to the teams have been announced. New Zealand’s twelfth man will not be announced until this morning. The teams are:— England.— M. Duggan (captain), C. Robinson, E. Barker, B. Birch, A. Disbury, H. Hegarty, O. Marshall, D. Macfarlane, H. Sanders, R. Westbrook, J. Wilkinson, J. Batson (twelfth man). New Zealand.—R. McKenzie (captain), J. Coulston, E. Dickson, B. Duncan. J. Currie. P. Blackler. J. Clothier, V. R. Coutts.
