Today... A SOBER ASSESSMENT OF THE FACTS ★ The issue in the election is between National and Labour. ★ The Social Crediters are entitled to their views; but few will imagine that they are likely to form a Government. ★ The choice is therefore between the National Government, with its young and progressive leadership, and the “Old Guard” of the Labour Party, little changed since 1949. ★ It is between an experienced National Cabinet team, well qualified to carry on the good work of the past eight years, and the Labour Party, in which the new aspirants for Cabinet rank are an unknown quantity. ★ It is between the National Government’s record of achievement, which has brought prosperity, progress, and advances in social welfare, along with peace and order on the industrial scene; compared with Labour’s record of high taxation, restrictions, import-controlled shortages, and industrial turmoil. ★ It is between a programme of continued steady advancement on all fronts, carefully prepared in the light of the country’s resources and prospects, and Labour’s policy of mortgaging your future to buy your vote with expensive promises, regardless of the consequences. ★ New Zealand is in good heart. Everywhere there is progress. Wages are good, work is plentiful, there is no poverty. But there are danger signals which every responsible citizen should heed. ★ This is no time for giving away what we have not yet earned. ★ltis a time for steadiness—for quiet confidence allied with firm and vigorous action. ★ The National Government will keep a steady hand on the helm. It has the men, the initiative, the purpose, the policy. It has a record beyond argument which justifies the continued confidence of the country. Tomorrow... VOTE AND VOTE WISELY NATIONAL N.Z. NATIONAL PARTY
