TIMBER STACK COVERS
Resident Complains Of Damage
Wooden covers off a timberstack alongside his home in Durham street had destroyed an apple tree, knocked down part of a fence and nearly damaged his car during recent north-west gales, reported Mr L. W. T. Stanley to a meeting of the Sydenham Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association. The wooden covers were about 4ft by Bft and after being blown off the timber-stack, which was about 22 feet high, could do serious damage. On an earlier occasion, his roof had been severely dented by the flying covers, said Mr Stanley. The president of the association (Mr F. I. Leigh) had written to the contracting firm and also to the Chief City Inspector asking them to inspect the damage done but no action had been taken.
It was decided to send photographs of the damage to the Chief City Inspector and to point out the danger caused by the covers. A letter will also be sent to the contracting firm, advising it that action was being taken about the trespassing by their men on Mr Stanley’s drive. It was also decided to write to the secretary of the New Zealand Timber Workers’ Union, requesting details of the regulations governing the height of timber stacks.
