YOUNG FARMERS’ ATTITUDE
Call For “More Faith In Ability’* (New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON, November 26. The psychology in adversity of young farmers and old farmers was analysed at a meeting of the provincial executive of the Waikato Federated Farmers. Mr W. Peterson (Matamata) said he had noticed at discussions about dairy industry returns that the older farmers were generally prepared to accept the market price for their produce, but that younger farmers favoured some form of State control. "The young farmer has not enough confidence in himself,” said Mr Peterson. “He is just as good ■ man as ever we were, but he could do with a little more faith in his ability to weather the storm.”
Other suggestions from members who contributed to the discussion were that the Welfare State had conditioned the minds of young farmers, and that young farmers had no confidence because “they were hearing the old man talk so much about a slump.”
