Reduced Charges For Radio Telegrams

(New Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM, November 27.

Special reduced charges for radio telegrams to and from members of the Ist Battalion, New Zealand Regiment, on the Captain Cook while they are on their way to Malaya were announced by the Postmaster-General (Mr T. P. Shand) today. The force will leave Wellington tomorrow afternoon.

The charges will be 9d a word, with a minimum charge of 7s 6d. As an additional concession, only a maximum of six words in the address will be charged for, irrespective of the number of words in it. The telegrams will be cleared through Wellington Radio on specially-arranged schedules to the ship. Telegrams should be addressed, “Captain Cook, Wellington Radio,” and give the initials and surname.

From the ship the members of the Malaya force will be able to send letter telegrams at a minimum of 8s 4d for 20 words. These services, said Mr Shand,, would operate only during the time the force was on the ship. As soon as the force landed, the 2s 6d standard text service and the greetings letter telegram service of 8d a word, with a minimum of 6s 8d and the.same address concession, would be available. The address for telegrams after the force landed would be the same as the address, for letters to members of the force.
