RESPONSIBILITY FOR HOUSING

A resolution outlining the Sydenham Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association’s aims had -been presented to the Christchurch City Council said the president (Mr F. I. Leigh) at a meeting of the association. The resolution said that if the council or the Town Planning Authority decided to rezone an area then they should be responsible for the cost of housing the resident in that area.

The council had been asked for a survey of all the vacant land still available in Sydenham so that it would be possible for the council to build houses to rehouse persons living at present in industral areas. This would allow industry to use the industrial areas rather than encroach on the residential areas, said Mr Leigh. w
