MARINE ORDERED TO GROW HAIR

Yesterday the thin strip of hair on the head of a 20-year-old marine commando, George Harrison, bristled when a drill sergeant bawled: ‘‘Get your hair grown!” The thin strip was all there was to bristle—George had had a Mohican cut. George’s haircut made him a national figure, and reporters flocked to interview him. ‘‘l did it for a bet,” George said. Officers considered the problem and then said they could not make George grow his hair longer. An officer said: ‘‘The regulations merely say the hair of the head must be kept short.” George will obey the order, not because of the drill sergeant but because his girl friend said that she would not go out with him again till he. looked decent
