Womens Cricket Test To Begin Tomorrow

yyiTH a succession of drawn two-day matches behind them, the members of the touring English women’s cricket team will take the field at Lancaster Park tomorrow for the first threeday match of their tour, the first test. The match will have additional interest from being the first to be played on Lancaster Park since it was top-dressed at the end of the Rugby season. The matches against the North Island, Canterbury and South Island sides have shown that there is little difference in ability between the players of the two countries. The bowling of the New has so far appeared to be at least as good as that of the tourists. The Wellington player V. Coutts, who scored 74 and 27 for the North Island, the Canterbury

players P. Blackler and E. Dickson, the Aucklanders J. Clothier and R. McKenzie, and M. Speight of Otago have all scored well ,in their respective matches. If the New Zealand bowlers can hold the tourists, the Dominion may record its first-ever victory K dn women’s test cricket. Batting « In their previous Christchurch appearance, the English batsmen showed good form at Hagley Oval. The good crowd appreciated the stylish batting and excellent fielding of the tourists and some, who had been inclined to disparage women’s cricket, left convinced of the merits of the game-' It would be surprising if many. more cynics were not converted in the next three days.
