Winner jointly with his twin brother of the Ardagh memorial prize for studentship in surgery for 1956 at the Christchurch Public Hospital, Dr. J. H. Stewart was presented with the prize at yesterday’s meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board by the chairman (Dr. L. C. L. Averill). The prize is in memory of Brigadier P. A. Ardagh, a noted surgeon, and is given annually by the Canterbury Park Trotting Club. Dr. Stewart’s brother is Dr. R. D. H. Stewart, now of the Palmerston North Public Hospital. They were students together at the Christchurch Hospital and the .prize judges were unable to separate them. They will leave together soon for England. Mr F. J. Perham Conservator of Forests at Auckland, has been transferred on promotion to the position of Conservator of Forests, Rotorua, which is the senior conservancy post in the Forest Service.—(P.A.)

Mr J. G. Laurenson, secretary to the North Canterbury Hospital Board, was yesterday congratulated by the board on his election as president of the New Zealand Hospital Officers’ Association. Mr J. J. B. Connor, the chairman of the Christchurch Metropolitan Road Safety Committee, resigned from the office last evening because of the pressure of other commitments. He represented the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce on the committee. Dr. J. T. Shannon was appointed visiting pediatrician to the Christchurch Hospital by the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday.

Mr N. T. Webb was elected a life member of the Canterbury Master Builders’ Association this week. He has been a member of the association for 45 years and until last year he served as a member of the executive for 35 years. Mr Webb was treasurer of the association for 12 years. Mr R. H.
