Australian Horses To Be Spelled In N.Z.

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY. November 26. A Sydney trainer, J. Denham, who has one of the biggest teams of horses training in Australia, will send three horses to New Zealand this week for an experimental three months* spell. If he considers the experiment a success he will send as many of his horses as possible to the Dominion to spell there. The first three, Dail Eireann and two two-year-olds, Grey Wonder and Starboard Light, will leave on Friday for Platform Stud, which Denham visited during a recent trip to New Zealand. • Denham believes the grass at Platform Stud and the rich New Zealand soil will benefit Australian horses.

Two New Zealand horses, Shahwan and Sombrero, due back in Sydney next week, are to be trained at Denham’s stables. Shahwan is to be prepared for autumn races, and Sombrero’s first start may be in the Anniversary Handicap, -one mile and a half, at Randwick on January 27. Sombrero has been nominated for the Christmas Cup at Rosehill on Saturday week, but there seems little chance that he will start so soon after his return.
