POLLING BOOTH ON LAUNCH
Marlborough Sounds
Voters
(New Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM. November 14.
A floating polling booth will operate in the Marlborough Sounds from Saturdav. and it is expected that in the launch’s voyage votes will be cast by some 300 isolated settlers. This service haj been arranged by the returning officer for Marlborough (Mr J. T. A. Beaumont), who will man the polling booth. Normally s iiinds voting would be by special vote, that is. by mail.
Because of representations by various organisations, the experiment is being made of the returning officer issuing voting papers from a launch. The launch will call on all sounds homesteads except the more remote ones, which will use the mail as usual. Mr Beaumont will start the service in Queen Charlotte Sound on Saturday and will move to Pelorous Sound next week. He expects the Queen Charlotte Sound trip to take two days, and the Pelorous trip at least three days.
These votes will not be included in the provisional returns on election day. but will be included Jin the official count which will begin in the following week.
