Raw Milk For Hospital

Raw milk will continue to oe supplied to the Ellesmere Hospital but it will be brought to boiling point to destroy the more important pathogenic organisms. This was decided by the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday, after a report was given by the hospital committee supporting the recommendation of the medical superintendent. The medical oflicer of healthhad drawn attention to raw milk being supplied to the hospital and suggested that consideration be given to obtaining a pasteurised supply. “Inquiries have disclosed that the only way in which a pasteurised supply could be obtained would be by a cumbersome method involving daily ordering by telephone from Christchurch,’' reported the committee. “The service, would be dependent upon outside transport and could be subject to breakdown.”
