ASIA Methodist Synod Seeks Quota Legislation had closed the door and Asians need not apply for immigration to New Zealand, said the Rev. C. D. Grocott at the meeting of the North Canterbury Methodist Synod yesterday. The synod was discusing a recommendation that the Government allow a quota of immigrants from South-east Asia to come to New Zealand. “The Government had agreed to allow three Chinese from Hong Kong to come to New Zealand,” said the Rev. A. K. Petch. “But employment and accommodation must be found for them before they can enter. We are finding it hard to find work for them and I do think we should pass this resolution if we are Suable to find employment for iem.” It was decided to. recommend to the annual conference of the Church that the Government allow a quota of Asian immigrants to enter New Zealand.
