WOOL VALUES IN AUSTRALIA
(Rec. 11 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Aug. 28. Although values at today's wool sale at Brisbane appeared to aettle down at yesterday’s reduced rates, values for most Merinos at the Melbourne sale, particularly better style and finer lots, moved further in the buyers’ favour. In Melbourne. withdrawal* were heavier than usual, but were confined mainly to Merinos. Competition at the Melbourne sale was divided principally between the Continent and the United Kingdom, with limited support on suitable lots from local buyers. Values for most Merinos can be quoted generally at S per cent, below the opening rates of the series.
Skirtings, irrespective of fault, continued to market satisfactorily by comparison, as did most comebacks and crossbreds. At the Brisbane sale, the downward drift in values of Monday and yesterday was arrested. Values compared with yesterday were generally unchanged for all well-grown wools. Crossbred prices in Melbourne included: good to super, 60/64's, HOJd: good 58's. 96d; good 56's. 90d; good 50’s, 82d.
