BLACK RAVEN IN FORM

Foley Memorial At Avondale

‘The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, April 26. , On the strength of good form at . Ellerslie and Rotorua last week-end, J Biack Raven, Revolver, and Dalrob I are likely to be the most fancied ‘ runners in the Foley Memorial Han- ‘ dicap, first leg of the double, at the Avondale Jockey Club’s autumn '■ meeting tomorrow. Black Raven is at the top of the j handicap with 8-12, Revolver has 7.5, j and Dalrob 7-0. When Black Raven ] and Dalrob competed at Ellerslie on , Monday, Black Raven won the H. O. Nolan Handicap and Dalrob looked ; close to useful form again when he finished fifth in the Easter Handicap. The Foley Memorial Handicap will be Revolver’s second attempt in open company. The first was at Rotorua : last Saturday when he ran second 1 over a mile and a quarter and 180 yards in the President’s Handicap. Revolver, a four-year-old from Te Rapa, left hack class with four wins, three seconds and a fourth to his credit from 13 starts. China Maid, which will be on her home track, New York, Black Seaman, and Innes Lass are possibilities. The second leg of the double will be the Mt. Roskill Handicap, of one mile, in which Jack’s Count should be hardest to beat. He is well placed below the middle of the handicap with 8-1, and at his last start on Tuesday scored a runaway win over a mile at Ellerslie. A change again to wet weather would help Jack’s Count, which is partial to heavy ground. Peter Willonyx, which is the top-weight with 9-5, and Tups would also be the better for wet going. The fields in every case are well up to standard, and very big. Provision has had to be made for two divisions in the Sapling Stakes Handicap, for two-year-olds, the Autumn Hack Handicap, and the Three Kings Hack Handicap. The weather is unsettled and there is a prospect of further rain. If the fine spell continues the going will be good although easy. Riding engagements include:— G. F- Hughes: Black Raven, Runada.
