A gift in recognition of her services was presented to Mrs Jas. Wilson by the committee of .the McKenzie Kindergarten at a recent morning tea party. The, president (Mrs Rex Jones) praise# the services of resigning mem* bers, who were presented with shoulder sprays.

The first monthly meeting of the newly-formed , Shirley Townswomen’s Guild was held recently. New members were welcomed by Mrs F. A. Smith,, the president. A programme arranged by Mrs H. Warren was presented by the Upper Riccarton Townswomen’s Guild. Items were given by the guild choir, the drama group (an Arabian sketch), Mrs C. Henderson (vocal solos), and Mrs R. A. Pashby (recitations), and everyone took part in an amusing mime. The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Belfast branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers: President, Mrs M. Finch; vicepresident, Mrs P. Johnson; secretary, Mrs R. Barnes; treasurer, Mrs W. Waites; committee, Miss M. Crawford, Mesdames A. Mitchell, R. Halligan, Inch, G. Salt, R. Don, A. J. Smith and H. Deavoll; advisory members, Mesdames Finch and Salt; competition judge, Miss J. Dunlop; competition steward, Miss N. Crawford; sales table steward, Mrs M. Ludwig. Mrs Gower presented prizes to the winners of the following competitions during the year: Cooking, Mrs Don; sewing, Mrs Cook; large bloom and spike or cluster, Miss Crawford; decorative small bloom, Mrs P. Taylor. ThC winner of the Aileen Freeman Cup. awarded for most points in all competitions, was Mrs P. Taylor.

Mrs J. H. Cocks and her concert party entertained members of the North Canterbury Post and Telegraph Women’s Association at the April meeting. Mrs L. N. Cumming presided.

A discussion on the theme of the next conference was led by Miss Little at the monthly meeting of the Catholic Nurses’ Guild, held at Calvary Hospital. Miss J. Loughnan gave a talk on her experiences as a nurse on the national pilgrimage to Lourdes.

A demonstration of hat making was given by Mrs Bowden at the April meeting of the Riccarton branch of the League of Mothers. Mrs Cranfield presided, and two new members were enrolled. The choir sang items.

Mrs C. Ironside addressed the Christchurch Central Townswomen’s Guild on her recent trip to England. Mrs W. Hodge presided. Mesdames W. Hodge and Reg. Smith were appointed delegates to the National Council of Women, and Mrs Chapman was chosen to represent the guild on the Friends of the Hospital organisation. Reports were given by circle leaders, the hospital visitors, the cradle roll supervisor, and representatives on other organisations.

Mrs Brake was the guest speaker at the annual meeting of the Amberley sub-centre of the Red Cross Society. The following officers were elected:—Patroness, Mrs Courage; president, Mrs K. Douglas; vice-presidents, Mesdames Croft and Gray; secretary, Mrs J. W. Streeter; treasurer, Mrs D. Coleman; committee, Mesdames H. Greenwood, Parsons, Burke, Briggs, Hayes,, J. Boyce, W. Boyce, Hollobon, Marrish, Marris, Stocks, O’Fee*, Glover, C. Streeter, Fitzgibbon, George and Misses Bristow and Coleman.

The result of the Patton teams’ match held in Crockfords’ Club was: Mrs R. R. Bell, Mrs J. Seldon, Miss C. D. Humphreys, and Miss V. Rogers 1, Mr and Mrs H. E. Booker, Dr. C. Newman and Dr. P. Brass 2, Mrs Trevor Foster, Mrs H. Bishop, Mrs C. Baxter, and Mrs E. Kibblewhite 3. The final for the club pairs resulted: Mr and Mrs J. Ardagh 1, Mrs R. Bell and Mrs E. L. Wyles 2, Mrs P. A. Ardagh and Mrs H. S. Richards 3 The result of the third Thursday afternoon duplicate match was:—North-south: Mrs Trevor Foster and Mrs W. J. Scott 1, Mrs H. C. D. Van Asch and Mrs V. L. Mrs Kennedy presided at the April meeting of the Tai Tapu Garden Club, which was held in the Tai Tapu Hall recently. Mr T. A. Judkind, of Christchurch, spoke on chrysanthemum growing and showing. Competition results were:—Arrangement of flowers in one colour: Class A, Mrs Kennedy 1; class B, Mrs Meyer 1, Miss N. Stone 2, Mrs Barwick 3. Large bloom: Mrs Meyer 1, Mrs Barwick 2, Mrs Kennedy 3. Ways of arranging flowers for hospital wards were demonstrated by Mrs Fleming, of West Eyreton, at the April meeting of the Oxford Garden Club, which was held recently. Mrs F. Gorten presided. Competition results were: decorative, class A, Mrs G. Dykes 1, Mrs J. Croy 2, Mrs C. Mears 3; class B, Mrs N. Frahm 1, Mrs T. Judson 2; large bloom, Mrs T. Mehrtens 1, Mrs R. Pilbrow and Mrs J. Croy (equal) 2, Miss M. Baxter 4; small bloom, Mrs J. Croy 1, Mrs R. Pilbrow 2, Mrs N. Frahm 3; vegetables, Mrs M. Johnston 1, Mrs T. Latter 2, Mrs R. Meyer 3.

Mrs R. Brake, of the North Canterbury Centre of the Red Cross Society, was the guest speaker at the April meeting of the Redcliffs-Mount Pleasant subcentre. She described the increasing needs and expansion of the Red Cross Society in the community. Plans were made to assist with .the Red Cross street appeal in June and to help with the plant and flower stall. Knitted comforts for elderly patients and clothing for children were handed in.
