DISORDERLY AND DRUNK
Hungarian Fined In Auckland (New Zealand Press Association) * AUCKLAND, April 26. A constable drawn to a disturbance on Grafton Bridge last night found several women and a man struggling. The women ran off and the man, who was “in a raving temper,” waved a gin bottle and screamed: "Long live Hungary. Down with the British cowards. Russia will get you.” . Mr J. G. B. Rossiter, the police prosecutor, said this in the Auckland Magistrate’s Court today when Paul Purda, aged 29, a Hungarian workman, admitted charges of wilful damage and disorderly behaviour while drunk.
Mr Rossiter said that when a taxi was called to take Purda away he wrenched a door handle off, telling the constable: ‘TH do the same to you, you Kiwi coward.” ' <
Purda asked the Court to suppress what he had shouted out, saying it was just drunken talk. Mr L. G. H. Sinclair, S.M., mentioned Purda’s criminal record, and fined him £5 on the disorderly conduct charge and £1 ori the other. He was ordered to pay £1 10s for the damage done to the door handle of the taxi.
