Halswell Rubbish Collection

Complaints about the rubbish collection service at Halswell were discussed by the Halswell County Council yesterday. The chairman (Mr J. Mackenzie) said that the collection had not been very satisfactory and the contractor was collecting from 79 houses for 6d a tin. Householders paid 15s a year for the collection. “I do not know that we can expect very much from the contractor for £2 a week,” said Mr Mackenzie, suggesting that the council might subsidise the collection more. Cr. E. G. Robertson moved that the county foreman accompany the contractor on a round to make certain what bins should be collected, and also thqt the council inquire into the cost of carrying out the collection itself. The motion was carried.
