WAIMAIRI BEACH WARNING

Two rescues were made at Waimairi Beach on Wednesday, one early in the afternoon the other about 7.45 p.m. The Waimairi Surf Club reports that a strong rip has developed along this part of the beach over the last week or so, and that a warning notice is posted at the entrance to the beach when conditions are bad. All persons bathing at Waimairi should read this notice or inquire about beach conditions at the clubhouse. The club considers that it is dangerous to use any sort of floating surfboard or mattress, out of one’s depth. Many persons have been careless in the observance of this safety matter and have ventured too far out. Several narrow escapes from being swept away have been reported.
