HOUSEWIFE IN U.S.

“Do-It-Yourself 99 Influence

Like most American women. Mrs Ferrall H. Moore, of California, has been caught up in the “do-it-yourself” craze, which is now sweeping the country. She does all her own interior decorating and most of the gardening, as well as looking after her husband, three children and her home. Hers is a busy life, in spite of all the labour-saving devices at hand.

Unlike most other American housewives, however, Mrs Moore says she does not find the time |o join numerous societies and clubs, another* modern craze in the United States.

Mrs Moore, who is the wife of a physician in Redwood City, was formerly Miss Beatrice Telford. of Christchurch. After 20 years away from New Zealand, she is now. revisiting her home town for three weeks to see her father, Dr. T. Fletcher Telford, of Ayns’ley terrace. As she flew over Christchurch yesterday after her long absence, Mrs Moore was amazed to see how the city had grown. From the air it appeared .to her that Christchurch was following the same type of building programme as Californian cities.

“Christchurch- is much like Redwood City,” she said. “The climate is similar and much oi the country reminds me of New Zealand.”

In the summer, most home entertaining in California is done out-of-doors with barbeques.

"I enjoy the life there and have always found the people most friendly, but it is wonderful to be home again,” Mrs Moore said.
