SHOTS FIRED AT INSULATORS

Vandals Damage Power Line (New Zealand Press Association} • HAMILTON, January 16. Damage to electrical insulators In high-voltage transmission lines in the Waikato has been reported to the Hamilton police. The most serious damage, caused by rifle fire, has been to the 220.000-volt lines carrying pow’er from Whakamaru to Auckland. These are a vital link in the North Island power system. The cost of replacing the insulators is considerable, said Mr A. C. Caldwell, the district electrical engineer, today, and replacement of them was a dangerous job. If a bullet severed a line and caused it to fall it could be dangerous, he said.
