(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. January 15.
When the Paris collections are shown at. the end of this month, Jacques Fath will have ceased to exist as one of the “big five” French fashion houses, according to the “Daily Telegraph” today. Its haute couture section will have been reduced to a selection and it will concentrate on models costing between £5O and £l2O.
Haute couture models will no longer be exhibited in the Fath collections and will be made only to order.
The firm has been forced to dismiss 150 workers to effect the changeover. It will now produce semi-luxury women’s dresses, adopting methods already used extensively in the United States Its “boutique” in which these models will be sold is being extended.
The spring collection will be shown on January 30. Fath will also keep its hat and perfume sections.
When Jacques Fath, creator of the fashion house, died in 1954. his wife, Genevieve Fath, continued the business, but heavy taxation has forced her to make the changes. Another noted fashion house. Germaine Lecomte, has closed down.
