No Fights For Shaw

Until he beats a high-ranked Australian welterweight it seems unlikely that the New Zealand welterweight boxer Barney Shaw will receive an opportunity to fight men in his own weight class in Australia. An article in the ‘‘Australian Ring Digest” recently said Shaw was eager for fights against George Barnes and Darby Brown A spokesman for a large organisation which promotes bouts in Australia said that if Shaw could beat a welterweight of the calibre of Colin Clark or Billy Todd, the' possibility of bringing him to Australia would op considered, for good welterweights were in demand in Australia Unless any top-rated Australian welterweights come to New Zealand there seems little prospect ol Shaw getting a chance in Australia. He beat the highly-rated Australian lightweight. Russel Sands, early in 1956 but so far has not met Australian welterweights.
