SCHOOL FOR DEAF AT AUCKLAND

START MADE ON BIG PROJECT (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 16. A start was made this month on the building of the new School for the Deaf, at Kelston, Auckland, which will cater for children from all over the North island. The project, to be completed in three stages, will cost about £250.000. The first stage, now begun, is the building of eighteen classrooms. This will be followed next year by a hostel, together with an assembly hall, library, kitchen, and recreation facilities. A nursery school will form the third stage. A great deal of preparatory work was needed on the 19-acre site before building could begin and this was completed last year, after many delays through bad weather.
