R. A. Whitcombe Dead.—Described as one of the last of the great yeoman golfers of England, R. A. Whitcombe, former British open golf champion and professional to the Parkstone Club, Dorset, has died, aged 58. He was the youngest of three brothers whose name was well known in British golf between the World Wars. He won the open championship in 1938, and was runner-up in 1937. —London, January 1-5.
