KUMARA EVENTS Handicaps for the trotting events at the Kumara Racing Club’s annual meeting on Saturday are:— BOROUGH HANDICAP, of £182; 2min 59sec class; one mile and a quarter.—Belfast Lady, Bessie Brigade, Castellan, Chartreuse, Gay Bells, Gothic, Haughtiness, Helen Patch, Kawa. Lackie, Panama, Sanfarer, Silver Paper, Sir Herbert scr; Dimboola, Half Back, Mighty Midas, Staraider, Weekender, Young Paul 36. DIGGERS’ HANDICAP, of £182; 2min 59sec class; one mile and a quarter.—Belfast Lady, Bessie Brigade, Castellan, Chartreuse, Gay Bells, Gothic, Haughtiness. Helen Patch, Kawa. Lackie. Panama, Sanfarer, Silver Paper, Sir Herbert scr; Dimboola, Half Back, Mighty Midas, Staraider, Weekender, Young Paul 36. Quare Times. General Advance and Scrooge. Win for Composite Composite, a good second to Crisette earlier in the day, gained a narrow win over Front Rank in the County Handicap after they had had a keen tussle over the final furlong. Front Rank took over with six furlongs to run, Composite being handily placed just behind him. Composite moved up to Front Rank racing to the straight, where they were clear of Ladas, Spotless. Buller’s Pride and Sharp Note. Front Rank looked to have the measure of Composite halfway up the straight, but the lastnamed came again in fine style to catch Front Rank on the post and beat him by a nose. Sharp Note finished very last in the straight to cut Spotless out of third glace in the last stride. Sharp Note roke when handy with three furlongs to run. and lost a lot of ground. Spotless had every chance, and held on for fourth, a length in front of Buller’s Pride, with a gap to Ladas and Zephyr Lass. Driver Fined After the New Year Handicap at Greymouth oh Saturday, R. E. Williams, driver of Chartreuse, was fined £5 for excessive use of the whip.
