QUOTATIONS IN CHRISTCHURCH

MELBOURNE WOOL SALES

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) MELBOURNE, June 12. Most wool prices closed at the highest point this season at the final day of the Melbourne sales yesterday. Competition was strong and widelv spread. Values for all combing wools were fully firm on last week’s rates. The selection included autumn-shorn wools, a big offering of bulk-classed wools and crutchings. Tip Top Ice.—The directors of the Tip Top Ice Cream Company (Auckland), Ltd., will recommend a final dividend on ordinary 5s shares of 3Jd, making a total of Bd, or 13 1-3 per cent, for the year ended April 30, compared with 15 per cent, in the previous year. The final payment will be made on holdings at the date of the annual meeting. The company has not yet fixed the date of payment. The capital of the company was increased by a cash issue of 113,407 ordinary 5s shares at a premium of 7s 6d last November, and further by a one-for-two bonus issue of 292,968 ordinary 5s shares last April. In a letter to the Stock Exchange Association explaining its dividend policy, the board of directors states that, although the final accounts for the year ended April 30 are not yet available, the board “confidently anticipates” satisfactory trading results. “In view of the recent bonus issue,” states the letter, “and to enable the investing public to assess fairly the value of the company’s shares, the board prefers now to state its considered policy, which is to recommend a final dividend of 3Jd a share, according to total holding at the date of the annual meeting. In view of the increased holding of shares through the bonus issue, this dividend will work out to the benefit of shareholders compared with the previous rate."

Clutha Dredge.—The Clutha gold dredge, operating at Alexandra, for the week ended June 8, worked 114 hour* and recovered 108 oune«».—(P.A.)
