CENTENNIAL POOL ROOFING

SWIMMING

CLUB’S LETTER TO CITY COUNCIL “The pool is at present a public liability for half of each year, says the Canterbury University College Swimming Club in a letter to the Christchurch City Council in which it urges the roofing of the Centennial Pool. "It Would cease to be a drain on the public purse if it were roofed," says the club. "A large amount of public money has been spent in building this asset, and it is our opinion that the council should not allow the pool to be ruined by its failure to carry on with the original roofing project,’.’ the letter says. The club condemns the council's intention to proceed only with the roofing of the stands round the pool on the grounds that it would not prevent the deterioration of the pool, would not make the pool any less of a liability during the winter months or enable Christchurch children to practise their swimming for any more of the year than at present.
