LAST FLIGHT AS TEAL PILOT

FLIGHT CAPTAIN C. G. GRIFFITHS

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 26. Flight Captain C. G. Griffiths, of Tasman Empire Airways. Ltd., who has flown nearly 3.000.000 miles, yesterday made his last fight to Whenuapai as a pilot of the company. Educated at the New Plymouth Boys’ High School, Flight Captain Griffiths learned to fly with the New Plymouth Aero Club, qualifying for his pilot’s A licence in 1931. From 1932 to 1937 he held a short service commission with the Royal Air Force. Joining Imperial Airways in 1937, he was posted to Croydon, but later served on internal air services and on flying boats on Empire routes. In 1946 he joined Tasman Empire Airways, returning to New Zealand on the delivery flight of the Awarua, the second Empire-class flying-boat to be delivered to the company.
