KING’S FAIR JADED SLIGHT RECURRENCE OF RHEUMATISM fN.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 26. The New Zealand gelding, King’s Fair, is suffering from rheumatism in both shoulders, after his last-stride win in the Railway Quality Handicap last Saturday, Yesterday he was jaded and listless. His trainer. John Mitchell, spent three hours yesterday morning rubbing liniment into the affected parts. Mitchell thinks the effort to pull his feet out of the boggy Rosehill track, with his big weight of 9-3, caused a slight recurrence of the rheumatism that dogged him in the spring before he ran second in the Epsom. Mitchell does not think the present soreness will be serious. "I have to handle King’s Fair with kid gloves, and he does not require a great deal of work between races," Mitchell said. "I am confident the soreness will disappear in a day or two. It will not affect his preparation for the Doncaster, as I did not intend to gallop him against the watch this week." Bookmakers now have King’s Fair and Arlunya equal favourites for the Doncaster. The Sydney jockey. Bill Cook, has been engaged to ride the New Zealand stayer, Sonnetary, in the Sydney Cup at Randwick next Monday. Sonnetary, brought here especially for the Cup. will make his debut at weight-for-age at Randwick next Saturday. It was decided last night by Mr E. Ward that Cambridge would not run in the Sydney Cup. Cambridge .is to remain in Australia and race at the rich winter carnivals in Brisbane. Auckland Scratching Altheo has been scratched for all engagements at the Auckland Racing Club’s autumn meeting which begins on Saturday. Riverton Rehandicap Royal Command is rehandicapped 141 b to 9-4 in the Longwood Handicap on the first day of the Riverton Racing Club s meeting next Saturday.—(P.A.)
