When he made the third of his 17 runs in New Zealand’s second innings in the first test against Pakistan, B. Sutcliffe became the first batsman to reach 10,000 runs in New Zealand and for New Zealand teams overseas. It was his 180th innings in first-class cricket. Those next behind him are R. C. Blunt (7769 in 204 innings), W. M. Wallace (7501 in 185) and W. A. Hadlee (7421 in 202). J. R. Reid’s 150 not out in the first match of the Pakistan tour was the hundredth century scored for New Zealand teams overseas. He has made nine of them, Sutcliffe 11 and C. S. Dempster 10.
