CELEBRATIONS AT NELSON
NAVY TO PRESENT PAGEANT (From Oui Own Reporter) NELSON. October 19. Nelson, named after the victor of Trafalgar and the streets of which city bear the names of some of Lord Nelson’s admirals and sea battles, will be the focal point in New Zealand for th? marking of the one Hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the. Battle of Trafalgar H.M.N Z.S. Hawea will visit Nelson from tomorrow until Tuesdav next. On Friday the Royal New Zealand Navy will reconstruct a pageant of the period before the battle when Lord Nelson offered prayers for victory and signalled, “England expects that every man will do his duty.” At 11.45 o’clock on Friday morning a guard of 50 officers and men from the Hawea, led by the New Zealand station Roval Marine band and accompanied by 12 signalmen, will march from Trafalgar square to the church steps. At noon eight bells will be struck and the ensign hoisted. Hawea’s youngest, seaman boy will read Admiral Nelson’s prayer, and Lord Nelson’s will be made in four hoists of flags from the yard oh a 75-foot mast which has been erected on Church Hill. The 12 signalmen will be attired in rig of the style worn by sailors at the Battle of Trafalgar. • At two bells in the' afternoon (5 o’clock) officers and signalmen from the Hawea and the Royal Marine band will march to the Church steps where the impressive sunset ceremonial will be observed.
