GAOL FOR REBELS IN ARGENTINA
(Rec. 8.30 p.m.) BUENOS AIRES, August 11. Rear Admiral Samuel Toranzo Calderon was reported to have been sentenced today to life imprisonment on a charge of planning the June 16 reVolt against the Peron Government. Informed sources said the Supreme Military Council passed life imprisonment sentences on Admiral Toranzo and six other Argentine naval officers in winding up the secret trial of 56 men accused of plotting the abortive rebellion in which hundreds died. By the account of these informants, Rear Admiral Anibal Olivieri, Navy Minister at the time, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment; terms up to three years were flnposed on 29 officers of the Navy and Air Force; the remaining. 19 defendants were acquitted, but probably will be retried. The life terms carry with them the brand of “public degradation.” The sentences are subject to approval by Presi/- . '. Peron. The prosecution had asked for the death penalty for Admiral Toranzo. It sought a two-year term for Admiral Olivieri.
