Princess Bides Bicycle Princess Anne, at Stranraer today, watched Prince Charles' ride a bicycle and thought she would like to try herself, the “Daily Express” said. She got on, and rode for the first time in her life. “She showed great aptitude,” said Lady Jean Rankin, who watched. Then Prince Charles tried' his hand with a .22 rifle. New Brighton Sewerage Scheme Since the opening of the first part of New Brighton’s new sewerage ; scheme at the end- of last month, -42 ; houses have been connected to the system. Artillery Band for Shield Match The Northern Military District Artillery Band, under the conductorship of I Mr F. B. Smyth, will travel in the excursion train to Christchurch for the Canterbury-Auckland Ranfurly Shield match on August 27. A special carriage will be added to the train to accommodate the 33 bandsmen. The band, which is the New Zealand B grade quick-step marching champion, will provide items before and after the match, and will also give a marching display.
