Latest reports from the rook front are not encouraging. These wily birds have now worked down to Halswell from-their prison stronghold and for all the number destroyed they might Y eU Protected. The ingenuity of mart has yet to devise some plan for mass destruction of the pest. The authorities, it would seem, nave thrown up their hands in despair at the futility of attempting to decimate their ranks. There are some farmers who aver that rifles in the naoas expert marksmen would provide an answer to the harassed farmers’ prayer. To this end they suggest that since the Government employs deer cullers, it might well engage one or two rook cullers.
