HOSPICE FOR AGED SICK
METHODIST MISSION . PROJECT Pledged to extend its services for the aged of Christchurch to -the limit of all available resources, the Methodist Central Mission has decided to erect a new wing for the aged sick at Wesley Lodge ngxt year. : - The present plan, which has been approved by the Department of Health, will provide accommodation for 15 patients. A further plan has now been drawn, which makes provision tor a second storey for staff and residents of the mission’s old people’s homes. The number to be accommodated ultimately in this hospice will depend on the finance available-when building begins. "An appeal for the project will be launched immediately, and it is heart- - ening to know that every gift will ba increased fourfold by the 75 per cent. subsidy provided by the Government," says the superintendent of the mission (the Rev. W. E. Falkingham) in his annual report to the mission’s board of management. “This new wing will enable us to admit many of the more urgent applicants whom we must reluctantly turn down at present because they require nursing attention and hospital facilities, not now available at Wesley Lodge. Furthermore, we shall be able to assure old folk admitted into our eventide homes that we shall provide them with security for the remainder of their days. “Admittance will not be governed by creed or religious outlook. Need alone will be the determining factor."
