HALSWELL RUBBISH COLLECTION
RESIDENTS ENDORSE SUGGESTION Replies to a questionnaire on the desirability of a rubbish collection m Halswell, sent out to residents by the Halswell Improvement Association, were unanimously in favour of the proposal. This was reported at a general meeting of the association. The questionnaire was sent out after a deputation from the association had met the Halswell County Council. Information gained will be forwarded to the counicl with the recommendation that it should act upon it. Mr T. W. C. Tothill outlined a sug?estion, which he said he would bring orward at the next meeting, for the starting of a community centre at Halswell, along the lines of the Risingholme Community Centre. He said it would be of great value to young people, and a boy scout group might be formed also. The next special meeting of the association on September 8 will also discuss street lighting and the establishment of a post office. The guest speaker at the meeting was the Christchurch regional planning officer, Miss. N. Northcroft, who explained the administration, finance, and | powers of town planning authorities. .
